Type UF-B (Underground Feeder Cable) finds versatile applications as outlined in Article 340 of the National Electrical Code (NEC). It can be installed as interior wiring in wet, dry, or corrosive environments, maintaining temperatures below 90°C (with ampacity limited to that for 60°C conductors) in accordance with NEC specifications. Suitable for exposure to direct sunlight or burial underground, Type UF-B is applicable in scenarios allowed for Type NM-C construction under Section 334.10(B) of the NEC. It holds a maximum voltage rating of 600 volts.
Construction:
Conductors: Solid conductors ranging from 14 to 10 AWG are soft and uncoated copper compliant with ASTM-B3 standards. For stranded conductors of 8 AWG and larger, they are uncoated and adhere to ASTM-B8 specifications.
Insulation: Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) compound with color-coding, designed to meet the specified thickness of Type THHN or THWN-2, features a heat-stabilized Nylon that is rated for 90°C in dry conditions or 75°C in wet locations.
Grounding Conductor: Soft, copper that is uncoated and adheres to ASTM-B3 and/or B8.Soft, copper that is uncoated and adheres to ASTM-B3 and/or B8.
Jacket: A PVC jacket in gray that is resistant to sunlight and fungus.
Assembly: Constructions with 2 and 3 conductors have the insulated wires arranged in parallel. If there is a ground wire, it is positioned in a valley between the insulated conductors.
Standards:
Compliant with Underwriters Laboratories Standards UL-83, UL-493, UL-1581, UL-2556; Federal Specification A-A-59544; ASTM-B3 and B8; NEMA RV 2-2011; NFPA 70 (NEC®) Article 340; ARRA 2009 Section 1605; RoHS Compliant; and MasterSpec Division 26 Sections 260519, 260523. UL Listing #E-123776.

The ampacity of conductors is determined according to NFPA 70 (NEC) Table 310.15(B)(16). Please refer to 110.14(C), 240.4(D), and 310.15(B) for additional limitations where applicable. Note that there might be additional ampacity limitations, adjustments, or corrections as per 310.15 and 240.4 of the NEC.
